Your printer is working, but it prints out either with missing colors or the output page has faded ink or it is totally blank.

Solution :

  1. Always use genuine HP cartridges.
  2. Or while printing with her two colour cartridges remove the black cartridge.
  3. Also, you can replace the empty or defective cartridge with the new one.

All these solutions are explained in detail below :

(Note: if it’s urgent and you need print right now then you can Print In Back-Up Mode. But there will be some quality issue)

hp Printer Prints a Blank Page

Solution 1. Using genuine HP Cartridge-

  • You should always use the genuine HP cartridges or supplies. Using Duplicate or unauthorised product can cause harm to your printer.
  • HP never guarantees the quality and reliability of such product. If you are not using the genuine HP cartridges then these steps might not be able to resolve your issue.

(Note: Always buy the genuine HP product and supplies from HP Store or HP local distributors.)

Solution 2. Ensure the replacement of low or empty cartridges-

(Note: Ink level indicators provides you just an estimation so that you can prepare and buy the new cartridge, else you should change the cartridge when printing quality is not acceptable.)

Now proceed with following steps to check the ink level and replace if you found it low.

Step 1. How to check the ink level-

  1. First, you will have to insert the plain white paper in the printer tray.
  2. Now In the lower-left corner of controlpanel you need to Press (➖)button , next to the setup (🔧) button.
  3. Proceed to press (▶️) button and select “Tools”.
  4. Now you have to Press “Ok”.
  5. Now next step is to press (▶️) button and Select “Estimated Ink Levels”.
  6. In the last step Press “Ok”. 
  • What to do when both of ink cartridges are full: No need to replace them, proceed to the next solution
  • What to do when any of the cartridges is low: Proceed to the next step to replace them.

Step 2: Replacing low or empty cartridges

Proceed to the steps below to replace ink cartridges.

  1. Put White paper in the printer tray.
  2. Switch “On” the Printer.
  3. Now Open the Cartridge compartment door. Wait for printer to get idle and silent.
  4. Gently Press the Cartridge and easily pull the cartridge out form the slots.
  5. Now you will have to remove the cartridge form the packaging and remove the plastic tape gently, as illustrated form the figure below.
  6. You should grip the cartridges from it’s sides with their nozzles facing towards the printer, and put the cartridges inside the colour coded slots. Ensure icons of cartridges and slots should match with each other.
  • Left slot: Tri-Colour Cartridge
  1. Right slot: Black cartridge
  2. Press cartridge into the slot until it fits properly.
  3. Close the cartridge compartment door.

Step 3: Aligning the printer

You should follow the below points to align the cartridge.

  1. First, you will have to insert the plain white paper in the printer tray and switch “On” the printer.
  2. Now In the lower-left corner of control panel you need to Press (➖) button, next to the setup (🔧) button.
  3. Proceed to press (▶️) button and select “Tools”.
  4. Now you have to press “Ok”.
  5. Now next step is to press (▶️) button and Select “Align Printer”.
  6. Again proceed to Press “Ok”.And now the printer will print an alignment page.
  7. Now you can Lift up the Printer lid.
  8. As per the instruction guide engraved on top of the printer, place the paper over the glass in the lid.
  9. Now you can close the lid and press “Ok”.
  10. The page alignment process starts, wait until the procedure ends.

Solution 3. Using automated tool to clean printhead

If you are facing printing problem, it could have been due to printhead clogged. These steps will help you to clean the printhead.

  1. First, you will have to insert the plain white paper in the printer tray and Switch “On” the printer.
  2. Now In the lower-left corner of control panel you need to Press (➖) button , next to the setup (🔧) button.
  3. Proceed to press (▶️) button and select “Tools”.
  4. Now you have to Press “Ok”.
  5. Now next step is to press (▶️) button and Select “Clean Printhead”.
  6. In the last step Press “Ok” to start the cleaning process.

(Note: A nominal mechanical noise is “normal”during cleaning process, after finishing the cleaning process a test page prints automatically.)

  1. If you find the printing quality unacceptable, then repeat the steps until you find the optimum print quality.Repetition might be needed.
  2. If this doesn’t solve the problem then proceed to the next solution 4.

(Note: For avoiding cleaning related issues, always use “Power Button” turn off the printer.)

Solution 4. Identifying and Replacing the Problem Cartridge

This solution is explained in two steps identifying the problem cartridge and then replacing it.

Step 1: Identifying the Cartridge to Replace

  1. Check the test page printed in the previous Solution.
  2. Now you will have to check the text and colour blockon the test page.
  • If you find any defect with black text on the page, then there is a problem with black ink cartridge.
  • If you find any defect with coloured blocks on the page, then there is a problem with tri-colour ink cartridge.

Step 2: Replacing the Problem Cartridge

Your defective Cartridge or Printhead may fall under warranty, to check the details you can visit Printer and Page Yield Overview and view the limited warranty information about your supplies.

  1. Load the paper in printer tray and Switch “On” the Printer.
  2. Now open the cartridge compartment door
  3. Wait till the point printer becomes idle and silent.
  4. Gently Press the Cartridge and easily pull the cartridge out form the slots.                                  ⚠️Caution: As illustrated in the figure you should not touch the ink Nozzles, also never re-tape the cartridge. This might cause ink failure, clog, or hazardous electrical connections.
  5. Now you will have to remove the cartridge form the packaging and remove the plastic tape gently, as illustrated form the figure below.
  6. You should grip the cartridges from it’s sides with their nozzles facing towards the printer, and put the cartridges inside the colour coded slots. Ensure icons of cartridges and slots should match with each other.
  • Left slot: Tri-Colour Cartridge
  • Right slot: Black cartridge
  1. Press cartridge into the slot until it fits properly.
  2. Close the cartridge compartment door.

  8. As per the instruction guide engraved on top of the printer, place the paper over the glass in the lid.
  9. Now you can close the lid and press “Ok”.
  10. The page alignment process starts, wait till the procedure ends.

 

Solution 5. Service Your Printer-

If you still find any problem to print after following all the above steps then there is a need to service or replace your printer. You can contact HP Customer Support and schedule your product service or replacement.

You can visit HP warranty to check your warranty status. It is to inform you that repair fees applies for out-of-warranty products.

(Note: Please keep the test page sample that displays the problem. The support person will request the print sample if cartridge, printhead or printer itself gets replaced under warranty. Before shipping, packaging and returning the printer to HP, ensure to place the test page sample in the output tray.)

Some points to Print in Backup Mode

  1. If you need an urgent printout and quality of print don’t matter, then you can use print in Backup mode.
  2. You can print in backup mode even if you do not have replacement cartridge, you just need to remove the problem cartridge and print with the remaining one.
  • Removing Tri-colour Cartridge: Prints will be gray scale.
  • Removing Black Cartridge: The printing process will be slow and there will be a color difference as well.
