Step 6: Checking the ink levels-

You should always replace the ink cartridge when you feel the print quality is not acceptable.

  1. First, you need to press the ink icon (💧) on the printer control panel. This will display the estimated ink levels.
  • Cartridge Ink level is Ok: Do not replace them and proceed to next step 8.
  • Cartridge ink level is low: Replace them and proceed to step 7.
Step 7: Process to replace low or empty ink cartridges- 
  1. First, ensure to switch on the main power🔌 and then“turn on”the printer.
  2. Now load the good quality paper in the tray.
  3. Further now you need to open the ink cartridge compartment door byclasping the printer handle from both sidesand opening it upwards until it locks to the max.
  4. Now you will find the carriageat the centre of the printer.

(before proceed further ensure the carriage to be silent )

  1. Next, to remove the ink cartridge, you will see a lid over the ink cartridge, pull that lid gently and open it to the max limit.
  2. Now further you need to pull up the ink cartridge to release it from the slot.
  3. New cartridge: Now you need to install the new cartridge into the printer. But few precautions need to take care.
  • First: While removing the new cartridge, ensure to touch only the black plastic in the ink cartridge.
  • Second: Never ever touch the copper-coloured contacts or ink nozzles.
  • Third:DO NOT replace the protective tape on contacts.
  • Not following this instructionwill result in ink clog, ink failure or bad electrical connections.
  1. New cartridge installation: Proceed the following way.
  • First, you need to hold the ink cartridges by its sides.
  • Ensure the nozzles to be directed towards the printer.
  • Now you should insert the cartridge into the slot.
  • In the end, close the lid gently over the ink cartridge to lock the cartridge into place perfectly.
  1. Now close the ink cartridge compartment door, after you have completed the process, and thereafter the test alignment page will print automatically.
  1. Now to align the ink cartridges:
  • First, you need to open the scanner lid.
  • Then place the test alignment page on top of the scanner glass as per the marked instructions on the printer.
  • Close the lid now and press ok.
  • Now the printer will align the ink cartridges.

Step 8: Printing a Print Quality Diagnostic report-

Herr you need to print the quality diagnostic report and that will help you in evaluating the results.

  1. First, you will have to swipeto the left and press “Setup” on the “control panel”.
  2. Also, ensure that the printing tray is loaded with plain papers.

Step 11. Check alignment lines and green colour blocks-

In this step you need to check for the alignment lines, that they should be straight and connected, also there should be no dark lines or white gaps in the green colour block.

And if you find the lines are not straight and connected or there are dark lines and white gaps then proceed directly to step 12.

  1. Print report satisfactory: This shows everything is working fine.
  2. Print report not satisfactory: Then you can try these general print quality guidelines, and need not to follow other steps in this document.
  • Images to be printed should be high resolution.
  • Never leave the ink cartridges out of the printer exposed to air for long time.
  • Use power button always to turn off the printer.
  • If you find the problem at the edge of paper, then rotate the image to 180 degree from the print settings.

Step 12. Aligning the printer-

This step is necessary if you did not found the lines straight and connected and there are dark lines and white gaps as well. So here you need to Align the printhead with the printer from the Printer Control Panel.

You need to take care of one small thing that before the printing job the printer will extend the output tray extender so you need not to push it back.

  1. To start with first load plain paper in the input tray.
  2. Now on the panel control panel press set up and press tools after swiping to the left.
  3. Further now you will have to press Align Printer after swiping up on the display.
  4. Now you will find the alignment page ejecting from the printer.
  5. Aligning ink cartridges.
  • First, you need to open the scanner lid.
  • Then place the test alignment page on top of the scanner glass as per the marked instructions on the printer.
  • Close the lid now and press ok.
  • Now the printer will align the ink cartridges.
  • Try to print now.

Stop troubleshooting now: If your problem is solved

Proceed to next step: If you find any problem with print out or HP Officejet 4650 not printing black.

Step 13.Cleaning of the area around the ink nozzles manually-

You need to use this step only If the test page shows smeared text or stains.

Be ready with these things:

  • Dry foam rubber swabs , any soft material cloth (never use alcohol based liquids to clean)
  • Distilled water ( never use tap water, there might be some chances of contamination)

Proceed with the following steps now:

  1. First, ensure to switch on the main power🔌 and then turn on the print.
  2. Further now you need to open the ink cartridge compartment door by clasping the printer handle from both sides and opening it upwards until it locks to the max.
  3. Now you will find the carriage at the centre of the printer.

(before proceed further ensure the carriage to be silent )

  1. You also need to disconnect everything from the printer now, power cord , USB cable etc.
  2. Next, to remove the ink cartridge, you will see a lid over the ink cartridge, pull that lid gently and open it to the max limit.
  3. Further now pull up the cartridge from the slot by holding it from its sides and ensure not to touch the copper colour contacts or nozzles
  4. Now you need to clean the place around the ink nozzle with the help of swab or cloth (Remember not to wet the swab or clothheavily and pour the extra water out from the swab or cloth, also not to clean the ink nozzle plate).

To clean – Only area around ink nozzle.

Not to clean – anything else.

  1. After cleaning the cartridge let it dry.
  2. Now after the cartridge gets dry, then clasp the cartridge from the sides and put it in slot.
  3. Now you need to close the lid.
  4. Now after the completion of this process close the ink cartridge compartment door and reconnect the printer with the USB cable and power and turn on the printe Now you can try to print the test page and if the printing is unacceptable then you can proceed to next step.

 

 

Step 14. Replace the problem ink cartridge

 

  1. First, ensure to switch on the main power🔌 and then turn on the printer.
  2. Now load the good quality paper in the tray.
  3. Further now you need to open the ink cartridge compartment door by clasping the printer handle from both sides and opening it upwards until it locks to the max.
  4. Now you will find the carriage at the centre of the printer.

(before proceed further ensure the carriage to be silent )

  1. Next, to remove the ink cartridge, you will see a lid over the ink cartridge, pull that lid gently and open it to the max limit.
  2. Now further you need to pull up the ink cartridge to release it from the slot.
